The Deputy Mayor for Education invites you to learn more about the District of Columbia’s process to review student assignment and school choice policies, including school boundaries. We would like your input on preliminary policy recommendations from the DC Advisory Committee on Student Assignment, with the goal to inform policies that will impact our schools and communities in the future.
All District of Columbia residents are invited to participate, including current and prospective parents of DC Public Schools (DCPS) and DC public charter schools students, as well as all other community members. Meetings are open to everyone. Each meeting will feature three ways for community members to engage in the process:
• Learn More: There will be an Information Fair with booths on the many critical factors that go into student assignment policy decisions, including city population and demographics, school programming, neighborhood development, and transportation. Community members will have the opportunity to get up to speed quickly on the issues influencing the policy recommendations.
• Provide Input: In a Presentation format with a facilitated Q&A session, the DME and representatives of the Advisory Committee on Student Assignment will present student assignment policy scenarios for community consideration.
• Work with Community Members: You will be able to take a deeper, more technical dive into each student assignment scenario as part of interactive Working Groups that will explore how the policy options would affect schools, program offerings, and communities, as well as propose changes or additions to the scenarios.

The Information Fair and the Presentation will be the same at each meeting, but the Working Groups will focus on the schools and communities associated with the section of the city where the meeting is located: Upper NW and NE, Center City, or East End (east of the river). The Working Groups will meet over two sessions.

Come learn more, provide input, and work with community members to review and respond to proposed student assignment and school boundary policies.
